Presentation Objectives
Understand goals for managing a pregnancy complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)
Review maternal and neonatal complications associated with GDM
Evaluate differing screening recommendations (IADPSG, ACOG, ADA) for GDM
Review the classification of diabetes during pregnancy
Examine GDM blood glucose targets and ranges
Review importance of individualized Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), exercise and weight gain goals
Revisit GDM medical management from initial consultation to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester goals
Understand potential complications associated with each trimester
Champion the importance of stepwise management and the role of the team
