Presentation Objectives

  • Understand goals for managing a pregnancy complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)

  • Review maternal and neonatal complications associated with GDM

  • Evaluate differing screening recommendations (IADPSG, ACOG, ADA) for GDM

  • Review the classification of diabetes during pregnancy

  • Examine GDM blood glucose targets and ranges

  • Review importance of individualized Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), exercise and weight gain goals

  • Revisit GDM medical management from initial consultation to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester goals

  • Understand potential complications associated with each trimester

  • Champion the importance of stepwise management and the role of the team
