Presentation Objectives
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
Review shift in patient care perspectives.
Explore patient empowerment philosophy of diabetes care versus compliance-oriented traditional care.
Discuss implementation of education, motivational interviewing, and affirmation to create the foundations for patient empowerment and self-efficacy.
Emphasize patient’s ability to make choices for herself in the context of a trusting patient-provider relationship.
Review the benefits of nurturing a constructive relationship between patient and healthcare providers/establishment.
